Marije Rottier.

Marije Rottier · UX/UI designer

UX/UI designer. From research to a working build.

I design web shops, content platforms and client tools: I audit what's there, research the problem, make every decision visible and prototype in code, using AI openly in my process.

Open to fully remote roles Remote since 2021 Dutch and English Google UX Design Certificate, in progress

Selected work

Process first

Every case shows the audit or research, the decisions with their reasons, how I used AI, and what I'd do differently.

30 Day Habit app

A mobile web app for 30-day experiments: a one-tap check-in, habit strength instead of streaks, and a missed day treated as information. Built in 30 days with AI, from research with cited sources.

All4feet

A B2B web shop for a pedicure wholesaler with 1,308 products on software from 2010. Log in, see your own price and send an order the team checks: an order request, not a checkout.

Client Portal

A portal that shows small business owners what their monthly website plan actually does. Research, flows and a prototype, with AI that only drafts.

Home Remedies

Unscented skincare, laundry and tea from Cape Town. A brand system and shop built on one promise: every ingredient, every percent, shown as bars on every product page.

Dental practice

A specialist practice with one long page and two very different visitors. A concept with its own route for patients and for referring dentists.

30 Day Habit

My own blog about 30-day experiments, rescued from an expired site and redesigned as a magazine and a logbook. Honest about what failed.

Haul & Stash

A vintage web shop that feels like discovering something, not scrolling a catalogue. Brand, shop and a system that lets one person run it.

What I'm working on next

New cases for the Google UX Design Certificate, each with user research and a usability test.

Mobile app · Google UX course 2 to 5

Habit swap app

A general habit app, separate from 30 Day Habit: swap a phone habit for something you'd rather do, at the moment the cue hits.

Research done

Responsive website · Google UX course 6

All4feet, tested

The concept put in front of the people who order: a card sort and a usability test of the new navigation.

Planned

Design for social good · Google UX course 7

While you wait

Support for people on a waiting list for mental health care, between the referral and the first appointment.

Postpartum check-in

A short weekly check-in for new parents in the first months after birth, that helps tell normal tiredness from something that needs care, and points to the right help.

Idea

How I work

The same five steps in every case

  1. Audit

Review what exists, with evidence per finding and a severity, before forming an opinion.

  2. Research

Competitors, users and the business model. Assumptions are marked as assumptions.

  3. Decide

Every design choice gets a written reason. Where taste isn't enough, I measure.

  4. Prototype in code

Clickable HTML with real content, on desktop and phone.

  5. Reflect

What I'd test next and what I'd do differently, written down.

About

Brand and retail background, UX/UI focus

A degree in international fashion and branding, four years at Vintage Company Amsterdam growing into Head of Digital, and two brands I built end to end. So my interfaces keep the brand intact, and the brand works as an interface.
